Download the Add-on
Click the download button above for your Blender version. The add-on will be downloaded as a mk_rt.zip file.
Open Blender Preferences
In Blender, go to Edit → Preferences → Add-ons, or press Ctrl+Alt+U (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+, (Mac).
Install from File
Click the "Install..." button at the top of the Add-ons preferences window. Select the downloaded mk_rt.zip file.
Enable the Add-on
Search for "Motion Kit Retargeting" or "MK RT" in the add-ons list. Check the checkbox to enable it. You may need to restart Blender for the add-on to fully activate.
Quick Start
Once installed, the Motion Kit Retargeting add-on appears in Blender's sidebar (press N to open). You'll find a new panel called "Motion Kit Retargeting" in the 3D Viewport sidebar.
Retargeting Workflow
- Select Source Rig: First, select our rig (the rig with the motion data you want to transfer)
- Select Target Rig: Next, select your character (the rig you want to apply the motion to)
- Build Bone List: The add-on will attempt to automatically build a bone mapping list. If it doesn't auto-build, you'll need to manually create the bone mapping between source and target rigs.
- Apply Retargeting: Once the bone list is ready, apply the retargeting to transfer motion from source to target.
Important: T-Pose Requirement
Your target character must be in T-pose as its Rest pose for retargeting to work properly. If your character isn't in T-pose, the retargeting may produce incorrect results or fail entirely.
To set T-pose as Rest pose: Select all bones in Pose Mode, then go to Pose → Apply → Apply Pose as Rest Pose.
Character Setup
- Ensure your target character is in T-pose as Rest pose before retargeting
- Your character should have proper bone hierarchy
- Ensure bone names are clearly named for easier mapping
Bone Mapping
- Try the auto-build bone list feature first
- If auto-build fails, manually map bones between source and target rigs
- Map corresponding bones (e.g., source "Spine" to target "Spine01")
